Martand


Martand temple in Jammu and Kashmir has been built to pay homage to the Sun God. This temple is one of the most visited heritage spots in Jammu and Kashmir. Martand is a sun temple that was built due to the initiative of the then ruler of the province, King Lalitaditya. The king belonged to the Surya Dynasty of India. This Kshatriya ruler was a worshiper of Bhaskar or the Sun God.

Martand temple in Jammu and Kashmir is a spacious construction and the architecture of the temple is worth praising. This Sun temple of India is known all over the world for its skillful construction. It is surprising that remnants of the constructions erected during the time of Lalitaditya or remnants of the city built by him have not been found in the later periods.
