Martand temple in Jammu and Kashmir has been built to pay homage to the Sun God. This temple is one of the most visited heritage spots in Jammu and Kashmir. Martand is a sun temple that was built due to the initiative of the then ruler of the province, King Lalitaditya. The king belonged to the Surya Dynasty of India. This Kshatriya ruler was a worshiper of Bhaskar or the Sun God.
Martand temple is built of limestone and its architectural pattern resembles the Greek style of architecture. The surrounding ambiance of the temple is very pacifying. The Hindu devotees of Sun God in Jammu and Kashmir pay regular visit to this temple.
