On way to Padum from Kargil, Rangdum – the serene and scarcely populated virgin land – stands as one of the integral routes of Jammu & Kashmir adventure tourism. Placed in the shape of an elliptical plateau, Rangdum is intersected by the road of Zanskar. Owing to its remote position, Rangdum offers a never-seen beauty of nature.
Set amidst the green valleys and glaciers, Rangdum is near Kargil from where one can get bus services to reach the place. However, for those who are interested in trekking can come to Rangdum via Sankoo. Enjoying the beauty of alpines and other natural ecstasies the trekkers can easily engross themselves in the very core of Rangdum. From Rangdum one can follow the trekking path that leads to Henaskut which is the next best stop of Jammu & Kashmir.
Rangdum owes a very old religious history, one that dates back to the periods of 18th century. One of the most enticing manifestations of the ancient splendors of Rangdum is the monastery of Buddhists followers which is located on the peak of a hillock. By the side of this historical monastery which houses around forty numbers of devout Buddhists monks a stream flows quietly.
The entire place of Rangdum seems to be in the possession of the monastery since most of the inhabitants belong to the Buddhists community. The lands of Rangdum are cultivated by the local people and the produce is generally consumed by the aborigines themselves.
Apart from the tourists rest house Rangdum also has stay-inn facilities in the form of tents that are provided by the Buddhist monastery. In order to reach Ramngdum, people have to ride the buses that start from Kargil.
From the natural streams to the majestic hills, Rangdum presents a pulsating course of enigmatic magnificence that captivates the tourists in no time.
