The
Sheesh Mahal of Ramnagar is a castle of royalty in the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir. Built in 1885 by the then king, Raja Ram Singh, the Ramnagar Sheesh Mahal is situated near the famous Ramnagar Fort, just 6 kms from the city of Jammu. As the name implies, the palace is decorated with mirrors and so naturally called the Palace of Mirrors. The walls are adorned by exquisite murals that vividly painted scenes from the Indian epics like the Ramayana and the Mahabharata. Battle scenes and scenes of warfare from the life of Raja Ram Singh, Raja Suchet Singh and many other former rulers are also painted in murals of myriad hues.
The
Sheesh Mahal of Ramnagar is located amidst an idyllic spot in the lap of the Shivalik hills that form the backdrop. The historical building of Sheesh Mahal is easily accessible from the Jammu city, Jammu Airport and the city's Jammu Tawi Railway Station.
