Surinsar Mansar Wildlife Sanctuary is sited a distance of 42 km from Jammu city and is credited to be one of the state's prized wildlife reserves. The proximity to the Jammu airport and railway station facilitates accessibility to the reserve while the excellent network of arterial roads aid regular buses loaded with passengers to ply forth.
The wildlife reserve that is an oasis of idyllic green stretches across a moderate expanse of 98.82 sq. km. The sanctuary's prized possession is its diverse wildlife that includes the swift and graceful leopards, beautiful spotted barking deer, the goral and the ferocious wild boar.
Myriads of merrily twittering and colorfully feathered domestic as well as migratory birds like the Red Jungle Fowl, Peafowl, , Green Pigeon, Blue Rock Pigeon, Black Partridge, Grey Partridge and Rufus Turtle Dove haunt the secure premises of Surinsar Mansar Wildlife Sanctuary.
The vegetation mainly comprises of scrubs and groves of the likes of the Dalbergia Sissii, Ficus Religiosa, Pinus Gerardiana, Mallotus Phillipensis, and Bahunia Variegata.
