Stondey

Also referred as Stongdey, Stondey is one of the extra-ordinary sites of Buddhists monasteries located in the region of Zanskar in Jammu & Kashmir. One of the main appeals of Stondey is its old monastery which has links to Marpa, a Tibetan monk. Being surrounded by a serene and picturesque environment the monastery is visited by large number of tourists round the year.

Stondey is a popular tourists destination which falls under the purview of Zanskar in Jammu & Kashmir. Situated on the northern corner of Padum Stondey can be arrived at via a newly laid road which takes around four hours. As a part of the Jammu & Kashmir adventure tourism Stondey attracts huge number of visitors. With its incredible scenic splendor, Stondey captivates the imagination of one and all.

Adding further aesthetic dimension to Stondey is the monastery of the place which also houses some of the quaint temples that bear the rich imprints of the monastic tradition of the valley. All the temples in the Stondey monastery speaks of a different and interesting heritage.

The SRTC buses of Jammu & Kashmir which use the Kargil-Padum road are available to the tourists to reach Stondey. Those who wish to trek along can do so through the Parkachik-Zanskar route.

Travelers who come from other states of India and also from other countries can stay in the tourist lodge which is located at Padum. Since Padum is only around 18 km away from Stondey so people can conveniently reach the place within a very short time.

Although a remote touristy place of Jammu & Kashmir Stondey still has a distinct charm of its own which mesmerizes the travelers in no time.
