The Shrine of Khan Saheb


One of the many important shrines that the Budgam District takes pride in is The Shrine of Khan Saheb. Definitely among the popular sites of Jammu & Kashmir Pilgrim Tourism, the Shrine of Khan Saheb is closely associated with Hazrat Salen Khan .One of the famous religious preachers and saints of that time, Hazrat Salen Khan came to Kashmir during the sixteenth century.

It is said that on the birth day of the famous saint, ninety nine saints came to see the new born baby and blessed him. His spiritual brilliance was evident from a very early age and his influential uncle kept no stones unturned to adopt him. However his father Ismail Sahib refused and left for Kashmir. He took his son along and a chanced meeting with the famous saint Baba Naseedb Ud Din Gazi, changed Salen Khan's life.

Hazrat Salen Khan stayed with his mentor for thirteen years and took valuable spiritual lessons. He meditated inside a cave for a stretch of twelve years. It did not take long for the people to recognize his worth and soon he had a large band of followers.

The cave became a must visit site for religious followers, pilgrims and tourists after his death. It was named after him and has become a part and parcel of the Jammu & Kashmir Pilgrim Tourism. Thousand of pilgrims visit the shrine during the Urs Festival.
