Usman Memorial


Usman Memorial is situated in the Rajouri district of the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir. It is a place of much historical importance. This structure was built in the memory of Brigadier Usman in Jhangar. He was the brave man who was responsible for freeing the area around Jhangar.

After completing almost half of his mission Brigadier Usman called a meeting that included all the army officers engaged in this mission in order to decide their future course of action. In the mean time the hero himself fell prey to the massive enemy attack. This mishap took place on the third day of July in the year of 1948. Usman Memorial of Jhangar was built in order to commemorate the tragic death of Brigadier Usman.

The great structure of the Usman Memorial is maintained and taken care of by the Infantry Unit located in Jhangar. The heroic achievements of the army men and the other civilians who lost their lives fighting in this struggle are commemorated every year on the third day of July in the Jhangar area.

You can visit the Usman Memorial in Kashmir on a trip to this Indian state. It is one of the most visited historical monuments of this region.

On a visit to the Rajouri district in the Kashmir valley you can also enjoy the beauty of some of the other places as well. Dhandidhar Fort located near the Rajouri town is one among them. It is a splendid structure built during the Mugal period.

The Usman Memorial of Jhangar is thus an important heritage site of the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir.
