Kishtwar High Altitude Park


The picturesque state of Jammu and Kashmir whose skyline is dominated by stately hills and whose landscape is a montage of colorful meadows, valleys, hills and knolls laced by gurgling rivulets is also opulent in natural heritage. Kishtwar High Altitude Park is a perfect example of the divergent topography and foliage that is characteristic of Jammu.

The park generously sprawls across nearly 400 sq. km of rambling acres of greenery in Jammu district. Kishtwar High Altitude Park's claim to fame rests in variegated species of wildlife that include the Himalayan Black bear, Brown Bear, Langur, Leopard, Markhor, Hangul and Musk Deer.

The sanctuary is also houses numerous species of domestic as well as migratory birds. Griffon Vulture, Bearded Vulture, White Cheeked Bulbul, Golden Oriole, Paradise Flycatcher, Indian Mynah and Himalayan Jungle Crow to name a few. Bird lovers and ornithologists have a wonderful time leisurely sitting in the cozy hideouts of the sanctuary and looking out for the vibrantly feathers plumes to emerge and go about their activities with clockwork punctuality.

The medley of diverse natural vegetation comprises primarily of seasonal varieties. The verdant greenery is made up of the Pinus Gerardiana, Pinus Wallichiana, Juglans Regia and Cedrus Deodara trees. Shrubs, bushes and herbs are also predominant in the sanctuary's dense glades.

The Jammu airport and Jammu railway station are located in the vicinity at a distance of 250 km and 248 km from the reserve, respectively. The roads leading to the sanctuary are also well developed and several buses travel ply passengers to and from the sanctuary through these roads.
