Zangla

One of the prime landmarks of Jammu & Kashmir adventure tourism, Zangla provides the trekking route of Padum-Markha. Located at a distance of around 35 km from Zanskar, Zangla houses some of the ancient establishments that speaks of the ruling heritage of the bygone era.

One of the interesting features of Zangla is its old nunnery which showcases the simple living style of the local nuns of the place. Then there is the ruin of an ancient castle which was once inhabited by the ruling king of Zangla. Today the palace houses a chapel only.

People who look for some adventure sports can come to Zangla for having an exciting experience. Apart from the Padum-Stondey-Karsha trek path, Zangla has also a suspension bridge made up of rope that was once used extensively. Although the bridge is not in use anymore yet it is one of the main attractions of Zangla.

Since most of the places in and around Zanskar have a rich monastic heritage, Zangla also possesses one such monastery the interiors of which are adorned with magnificent murals. A tour o this monastery is must for all those who are interested in knowing the cultural and religious aura of the Buddhists monks of Jammu & Kashmir.

Accommodation services for the tourists coming to Zangla are provided by the tourists building of Padum which also has proper arrangements of dining. The villages near Zangla are also known to offer stay-inn facilities to the tourists in lieu of a monetary amount.

The Kargil-Padum road is used by the SRTC buses of Jammu & Kashmir state to arrive at Zangla. Taxis, jeeps and deluxe buses are also often hired by the tourists to reach Zangla.
