The Mehrangarh Fort happens to be one of the largest forts of India. Mehrangarh Fort means the majestic fort. It is located in the city of Jodhpur. This fort has remained ever invincible with its strategical edifice.
The construction of Mehrangarh Fort though started in the era of Rao- Jodha in 1459 yet much of the construction was carried on under Jaswant Singh. The fort is built on a 150 m high hill top and thus it can be seen from the surrounding region.
There are three stately gates that adorn the entrance of Mehrangarh Fort. These gates have been built to fortify the fort as well to commemorate a victory.
The different parts of the fort which the tourists can not afford to miss are :
- Moti Mahal: It has been once the residing place of the royal throne. This Mahal is built of stone.
- Umaid Villas: This part of the fort houses some of the Rajastani art works.
- Ajit Villa: This section has the collection of royal attires and musical instruments.
- Phool Mahal: It possesses the prestigious coat of arms.
- Maan Villas: The weaponry and the arsenal are displayed in this section of the fort.
- Jhanki Mahal: This section holds a collection of cradles.
- Tent Room: This tent has legendary associations with the Mughals.
