Districts of Karnataka



Districts of Karnataka comprises of a wide gamut of places that are found in and around the state. The collective development of all the Districts leads to the all-round progress of Karnataka. From east to west and north to south, the Districts of the state are spread across the length and breadth of Karnataka.

Bangalore, one of the major Districts of Karnataka, is divided into two parts - urban and rural. Located on the southern part of the state, the headquarters of both the places are at Bangalore city. There are 115 Gram Panchayats at Bangalore urban while there are 227 Gram Panchayats at Bangalore rural. The city is known as the silicon valley of India.


The Belgaum District of Karnataka is found on the north corner of the state and has a total of ten taluks within its vicinity. There are 473 Gram Panchayats in the District and the Maruthi and Kapileswar temples are the prime attractions of the place.

Set on the center of Karnataka, the Bellary District has 222 Gram Panchayats and its headquarter is situated in the same place. Durgamma temple and two ancient mosques are the special features of the place.

Found on the northern side of Karnataka, Bidar District possesses 177 Gram Panchayats and headquartered at Bidar only. The historical forts, mosques and temples adorn the special appeal of the place.

Bijapur District is on the north of Karnataka and its headquarter is at the same place. The Gol Gumbaz dome and Mausoleum of Mohammed Adilshah are the two prime features of the District.

The District of Chitradurga is located on the central part of Karnataka and has its headquarter at Chitradurga itself. The fort of Vijayanagara, the temples, the Museum are among the several special features of the place.

The South Kannad District lies on the southern corner of Karnataka and the headquarter of the place is at the same location. The District was once under the control of the Madras Presidency.

With 442 Gram Panchayats, the District of Dharwad is found on the centre of Karnataka. Headquartered at the Bangalore to Pune road, the District flaunts its rich cultural heritage through a series of famous temples and literary figures.
