Medical Colleges in Karnataka

The first among the medical colleges in Karnataka begun in 1929 at Bangalore. In 1930, it was shifted to Mysore. In 1954, the Bangalore Medical College was formed. The Kasturba Medical College at Manipal and the Karnataka Medical College at Hubli were started in 1953 and 1956 respectively. By 1993-94, there were 19 medical colleges in Karnataka, 41 dental colleges, 61 pharmacy colleges, 11 nursing colleges, 16 colleges of Ayurvedic medicine, and 3 Homeopathic colleges.

Common Entrance Test is conducted by Government of Karnataka, Department of Technical and Medical Education, for admission to first year MBBS courses in various medical colleges in Karnataka.

Selection: An equal weightage is given to marks secured in Common Entrance Test and the qualifying examination for admission to medical colleges in Karnataka.

• Eligibility: Passing the second year Pre-University or XII standard or equivalent examination in the year of admission or earlier (qualifying examination) with 50% of the aggregate marks or equivalent grade in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology and English as one of the languages.
