Karnataka Assembly Elections 2008



Come May 2008 and Karnataka is all set to appear for the battle of the ballot, this time for 224 assembly constituencies. This South Indian state with 29 districts will take the polls in three successive phases the first one of which is on May 10, 2008. In the very first phase 89 of 224 constituencies face the EVMs thus sealing the fate of some of the bigwigs of Karnataka politics such as former Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy, his brother Revanna, Mamta Nichani and former Deputy Chief Minister Siddaramaiah,

The second phase of the elections will be held on May 16, 2008. Under this voters of 66 assembly constituencies of 10 districts of the state- Raichur, Koppal, Uttara Kannada, Bellary, Chitradurga, Devanagere, Shimoga, Udupi, Chikmagalur and Dakshina Kannada - will elect their representatives for the next five years. The state will see the third and the final phase of elections on May 22, 2008 in which 69 constituencies, spread over 8 districts, will face the ballot. Districts which will go for polling in this phase are North Karnataka, Dharwad, Gadag, Haveri, Bidar, Gulbaga, Bijapur, Bagalkot and Belgaum.

The counting of the votes will start on May 25, 2008.
