- Reservation of seats for the Members of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes in the election of the Gram Panchayat is also one of the responsibilities of the election commission.
2004 Karnataka Election Results
The 2004 Assembly elections saw the BJP calling the shots by winning as many as 79 seats, followed closely by the Indian national Congress with 64 seats and the Janata Dal (secular) bagging 58 seats of the total 224 assembly constituencies. JD (U) won 5 seats and only 8 seats were left for other parties. The state quickly entered into a coalition between INC and JD(S).The percentage turnout in the Karnataka elections for the year 2004 has been very impressive with the highest in Chikmagalur with 72.87%. The turnout in Mysore was 72.10%. Bangalore South had 49.01% and Bangalore North had 54.25% turnout.
