Durga Parameshwari Temple



Devi Durga is the symbol of power (shakti) and being worshiped by a large number of devotees all over India. The Durga Parameshwari Temple of Karnataka is located 29 km. far from the Mangalore city.

Kateel is situated in South Kannad which is a holy pilgrimage for the Hindus. This sacred place is dedicated to the Goddess Durga Parameshwari. Devotees from all over the country come to this divine place to pray and worship the holy deity of Durga in the Durga Parameshwari Temple.

The Durga Parameshwari Temple of Karnataka is situated on a small island in the middle of the holy river. The scenic beauty of the temple along with its surrounding greeneries have given a gorgeous look to the temple.

The pious emotions of the devotees get influenced when their aspirations meet with the juxtaposition of the holy atmosphere and fascinating sceneries. There is a big rock in between the main entrance and the temple entrance gate of the Durga Parameshwari Temple. This rock is situated in the left side and is known as Goddess Rakteshwari. Every day devotees offer puja to the Rakteshwari Goddess. On every Sankramana which is known as a holy day for prayer, devotees offer coconuts and worship there.

There is a shrine dedicated to Goddess Chamundi who is regarded as another form of Devi Durga. People at various times of the year come to Durga Parameshwari Temple in Karnataka to offer their in depth devotions and prayers. Free meals are given to the visitors there at lunch and dinner. The devotees take the food which is called the prasadam and treat them as blessings from the Goddess.

Special cultural activities are often performed in the temple in praise of the grace of the Goddess.
