National University of Advanced Legal Studies

National University of Advanced Legal Studies (NUALS) was set up by the Kerala Government by merging Bar Council of Kerala Trust and National Institute for Advanced Legal Studies (NIALS) which was formed and administered by the Bar Council of Kerala. The law institute was formed by the Kerala Government by virtue of Act 27 of 2005.

National University of Advanced Legal Studies at Kochi has joined hands with university of Paris - X in Nanterre at France through a Memorandum of Understanding i.e., MOU whereby the two would share their students, faculty and the outcomes of the research undertaken with one another.

The main mission of National University of Advanced Legal Studies in Kochi is listed below:

  • To offer and facilitate learning and knowledge of law and legal and judicial processes and their role in national development.
  • To encourage learning and research of law in various disciplines such as management, science and technology, International corporations and development.
  • To inculcate among students and research scholars a sense of responsibility to serve the society in the field of law by nurturing skills of advocacy, legal services, legislation, law reforms, etc.
  • To work for the development and dignity of the profession of law in liaison with the Bar Council.

    At present National University of Advanced Legal Studies of Kochi provides four main programs, two of which have been started from the current year. All the four degree programs are listed below:
    • BA
    • LLB (Hons.)
    • LLM
    • Ph.D.
    Application forms and prospectus of Kochi National University of Advanced Legal Studies can be availed from the campus or by sending a demand draft for Rs 750. There are only 60 seats for the 5 year LLB program and out of these 5 seats are reserved for students from outside Kerala. Out of the remaining 55, 10% of the seats are reserved for SC/ST and 10% is reserved for candidates from other backward classes.
