The most famous place for shopping in Kolkata is the New Market area, which was earlier known as the Hogg Market. From toys and junk jewelries to your fashion wardrobe, you will find it all at this place suiting your budget. The two very famous shopping arcades here are the Sreeram Arcade and the Treasure Island Market. Adjacent to this place is the area around Park Street, which entangles other shopping places like the Shakespeare Sarani, Camac Street and Russel Street. These areas have excellent food courts, shopping malls, big branded stores and so on.

The Dakshinapan Shopping Complex at Dhakuria is a very popular shopping zone for the college-goers. But one cannot bargain here as most of the shops have fixed rates for their things.

The two oldest shopping areas of Kolkata where one can get things at a much reasonable rate are the Shyambazaar and the Hatibagan markets. Hawkers throng the street with variety of items. You can avail garments, shoes, belts, bags, fashion accessories, food joints and whatever needed, all over in this place. And for the bookworms, a visit to the College Street area is the best. The streets on both sides of the road can be seen overflown with bookshops. Burrabazar is also a very famous area for shopping.
