Fairs and Festivals of Kota



The Fairs and Festivals of Kota are famous throughout the length and breadth of the colourful state of Rajasthan. Originally called Rajputana, there are several cities in Rajasthan which are famous for their colourful fairs and festivals. They are a source of comradeship of the local populace and a source of major foreign exchange as well.

There are several cities in Rajasthan which are famous for fairs. They are Jaipur, Jodhpur, Jaisalmer, Ajmer etc. Several fairs are organized in these cities, namely Camel fair, Kite Festival, Nagaur fair, Pushkar fair etc. Kota also has its fair share of fairs. Among them the Kota Dussehri (Dussehra) festival is quite famous.

Dussehra is celebrated in Kota with quite a lot of pomp and grandeur. The streets are lit up. There is an infectious festive spirit all around. Dussehra marks the victory of good over evil and is depicted by the legendary battle between Ram and Ravan, from the Hindu mythology, which finally ends with the triumph of Ram, the embodiment of good.

Excepting Dussehra, there are several other fairs and festivals which are organized in the town of Kota as well. They are not as large as the Dussehra, but they attract both domestic and foreign visitors alike. Rajasthan, being an epicenter of tourism in India, relies heavily on Foreign exchange for their economy. The lively fairs and festivals of the city of Kota bring tourists in hordes to have a taste of the colourful local extravaganza. The Fairs and Festivals of Kota are enjoyed by people of all demographic types.
