Kandaghat


Kandaghat is located on Kalka- Shimla highway at an altitude of 4,667 feet above sea level. During the pre-independence period Kandaghat was called Kohistan District and also enjoyed the status of the "Summer Capital" of the Princely State of Patiala. Maharajah Bhupinder Singh built a palace in Kandaghat, when he was expelled from Shimla and called the palace 'Chail View Palace'.

But after India gained independence it was called "Pepsu". Kandaghat is one of the popular tourist destinations in India. Some of the places to see in Kandaghat are:

  • Sidh Baba ka Mandir is a beautiful spot built by Maharaja Bhupinder Singh.


  • Chail wildlife sanctuary is visited by wildlife lovers to see red jungle fowl, khalij, kakkar, Ghoralsambhar, and cheer pheasants.


  • Sadhupul is a lovely village which has recently developed as a popular picnic spot. It located in the middle between Kandaghat and Chail, which has a Ashwani stream.


  • Kairighat was a dak bungalow, which has now been converted into a wonderful hotel.


  • Chail is a paradise for hikers and nature lovers. Chail is spread across three hills, Rajgarh Hill, Pandhewa Hill and Sadh Tiba hill. The panoramic view of the Satluj Valley and a sight of Shimla and Kasauli add to its beauty. On Rajgarh Hill the palace is located whereas Residency Snow View lies on Pandhewa Hill and on the Sadh Tiba hill Chail is situated.
