Kinnaur
Kinnaur is in the northeastern part of Himachal Pradesh, which is nearly 235 km from Shimla. The exquisitely beautiful land has the three high mountains ranges namely Dhauladhar, Zanskar and Greater Himalayas, thus encircling the valleys of river Baspa, Sutlej, Spiti, and their tributaries. As a tourist spot Kinnaur is very popular.
Adventure tourism has developed on a large scale in Kinnaur and there is further scope for its growth. Many trekking routes can be explored in Kinnaur district, there are perfect slopes at Kalpa, ideal for skiing, and rock climbing is another sport for which the location is ideal. The region has a number of temples and monasteries, such as:
- Chandika Temple Kothi
- Rarang Monastery at Rarang
- Charang Temple
- Chango Temple at Chango
- Brelengi Gompa at Brelengi
- Durga Temple at Ropa
- Maheshwar Temple at Sungra
- Mathi Temple at Chhitkul
Kinnaur has been gifted with many beautiful places, they are:
- Kalpa is located on the old Hindustan Tibet Road, which is 260 km from Shimla and at an altitude of 2759 m from the sea level. The Narayan-Nagani temple and the Buddhist monastery Hu-Bu-Ian-Car Gompa are worth visiting. The region is very close to Kinner Kailash.
- Lippa is located at an altitude of 2438m, on the left bank of Taiti stream. The place houses a game sanctuary. The three Buddhist temples in the region are built in honor of Galdang, Kangyur, Dunguir and Chhoikar.
Some of the other places in and around Kinnaur are Chango, Ribba, Reckong Peo, Nako, Chhitkul, Sangla, Moorang, Kothi, Rakchham, Namgya, Leo, Puh, Nichar. One can even enjoy the diverse wild life of the region by visiting Rupi-Bhaba Sanctuary, Lipa-Asrang Sanctuary and Rakchham-Chhitkul Sanctuary.
