Nalagarh

At the mouth of the state of Himachal Pradesh stands the city of Nalagarh which makes an ideal gateway to the state. The region was the illustrious capital of the Hindur dynasty that was founded by the King, Raja Ajai Chand in the early 12th century. The kings of the dynasty were great patrons of art and architecture and the evidence of the illustrious rule of the dynasty is found in the magnificent forts and palaces found in the region of Nalagarh.

The Nalagarh Fort was constructed during the reign of Raja Ram Chander. The monumental structure derives inspiration from the Mughal architectural style. Situated on the foothills of the Himalayan mountain ranges, the fort provides an excellent and panoramic view of the Shivaliks and overlooks the River Sirsa. The towered fort is segregated into five levels of which three are furnished with lush green gardens and lawns. The fort is bordered by the 20 acre wooded forest region and is dotted with orchards that spread across the sylvan area. The monumental fort has now been converted into a heritage hotel.

While on a tour of Nalagarh, the tourists may visit the Gobind Sagar Lake that lies at a distance of 22 kilometers from the city. The barrage on the river Sutlej is also located in close proximity. The royal luxurious gardens stylized in the Mughal form lay in Pinjore that is at a short distance of 35 kilometers from the city of Nalagarh.

The city of Nalagarh is situated at a distance of 220 kilometers from the city of Manali and is easily accessible by road. The city of Nalagarh has become one of the popular places to see around Manali.
