According to the statistics cited in the 1991 Census Report, the population of Imphal District is recorded to be 3,30,460, a small portion of which is made up of Scheduled Caste and Tribes. The literacy rate is also commendable at 68.05%. The predominantly agrarian economy is supplemented by practicing horticulture, animal husbandry, poultry as well as collection of forest products.
