Manipur Economy



Manipur, one of the seven sisters that form northeastern India, is trying its level best to boost up its economy. The Manipur economy is mainly dependent on agriculture but is also supported by several small scale industries.

Nearly 7700 small scale industries that include cottage industries, village industries, handicrafts as well as handlooms have been set up in Manipur. The state government is trying its level best to improve the economy and strengthen the financial backbone. Agriculture is credited to be the means of subsistence of a majority of Manipur's populace and contributes largely to its economy. Paddy is grown in plenitude and the quintessential Manipuri sweet rice is renowned all across the country. Wheat, pulses and maize as well as innumerable fruits are also grown aplenty.
