Manipur Location



Manipur location is strategically very important to the country of India for it shares international border with the neighboring country of Myanmar. Situated in a remote corner, it is one of the seven sister states in the north-eastern part of the country. The state of Manipur stretches between 23.83º and 25.68º North latitude and 93.03º and 94.78º East longitude.

The state has 9 districts spread over an area of 22,327 sq. km. The geography of Manipur mainly comprises of flat table land or plateau of alluvium and hilly areas. This cup shaped land of Manipur is cocooned by Mizoram in the south, Nagaland in the north, Cachar district of Assam in the west and upper Myanmar in the east. The land locked location of Manipur makes it a valley with hill ranges surrounding the region. The geographical location allows the growth of several crops, fruits, vegetables and extensive forest lands.

The hilly district of Manipur is situated at an elevation of 790 meters above the sea level. The location of the state is cocooned between the Naga Hills, East Manipur Hills, Mizoram Hills, China Hills and the West Manipur Hills. Three national highways cut through the expanse of this location. They are the NH 39 Indo-Myanmar road, NH 53 New Cachar Road and NH150 Jessami-Tipaimukh Road.
