Severe cyclonic storm nailed through southeast coast of India. The cyclone uprooted trees , flattened houses, disrupted communication channels and left Chennai and other places like (Mamallapuram)Kancheepuram, ( Pazhaverkadu)Tiruvallur, Villupuram and Nagapattinam of Tamil Nadu &  Nellore and Chittoor of Andhra Pradesh  without power for hours.

Cyclone Vardah to Weaken in Next Six Hours

As per reports from India Met Department (IMD), the cyclone is crossing coast near Chennai and may make landfall in next two hours. In next six hours, the cyclone is likely to calm down.
The clouds have spread in places like Anantapur, Mysuru, Ramanathapuram, Kurnool, Madurai, Dindigul, Hyderabad, Tiruppur, Coimbatore, Satyamangalam, Bengaluru, Tumakuru, Bellari, Jagdalpur,  Mahbubnagar, Warangal, Sonepur and Phulbani.

Southern parts of Tamil Nadu may experience fresh rainfall later this week.

Cyclone Vardah: People are Being Evacuated from Near the Sea

According to reports,more than 7000 people in Tamil Nadu and 9000 in Andhra Pradesh have been evacuated from near the sea. Navy has made an arrangement of food and water for around 5,000 people.

Reports from Meteorological Department says rain is likely to resume again after 5 pm.

Cyclone Vardah: Two People Died

Striking close to Chennai, cyclone Vardah has killed two people. As per reports, the cyclone has already hit land with wind speeds of between 120 and 130 kmph and in another four hours it will cross land completely. The coast in Tamil Nadu is being lashed by heavy rains and strong winds. More than 1600 people have already been evacuated.

Cyclone Damages Petrol Pump

Cyclone Vardah has already hit near Chennai today afternoon, and a petrol pump was damaged with its roof fallen off. As per the Cyclone Warning Division of the India Meteorological Department, Vardah is now a severe cyclonic storm. It is expected that heavy rains and strong winds will keep on lashing the city for next 36 hours.

 

Cyclone Vardah: Flights Cancelled, Cyclone May Make Landfall

As per reports, cyclone Vardah with wind speeds of around 80 to 100 km per hour may make landfall between 2-5 pm today in Tamil Nadu. Taking necessary measures to control the situation in the state, many flights have been cancelled and delayed today. The state’s coast is being hit by heavy rains and strong winds. Teams from the Navy and the National Disaster Response Force are standby as Tamil Nadu and neighbouring state Andhra Pradesh are on high alert.

 

Andhra, Tamil Nadu Brace for Cyclone Vardha

A severe cyclonic storm Vardah, which originated in southern Thailand, is expected to cross the south Andhra and north Tamil Nadu coast close to Chennai by today. It is currently about 180 kilometers east of Chennai and is expected to make landfall by afternoon. Tamil Nadu has been receiving heavy rainfall and is under alert for the last ten days. Fishermen have been advised not to venture off the Andhra Pradesh and north Tamil Nadu coast in the sea during the next 48 hours as the sea condition is expected to be very rough. Holiday has been declared for several schools and colleges in Chennai, Kanchipuram and Tiruvallur districts. According to the Meteorological Department, the severe cyclonic storm is expected to weaken into a cyclonic storm with wind speeds up to 90 km per hour after making landfall. It has urged people to be safe and cooperate with the government and NDRF team.

A control room has been set up to monitor relief efforts.
