Karwar

Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore called Karwar the Kashmir of south India. Gazing into the Western Ghats (Sahyadri Range) and the Karwar beach along the Arabian Sea on its side, Karwar enticed him, causing him to write some fabulously inspired poems.

Karwar as a place is famous for Asia's biggest Naval Base Project, the Seabird. The Seabird will be called INS Kadamba after it has been formally inaugurated. The other thing that Karwar is also famous for is Kaiga - a Nuclear Power project currently undergoing its 3rd and 4th Unit expansion. The people of Karwar too don't lag behind. They are renowned for their valor and commitment towards their motherland; with the lone recipient from Karnataka state to get the Param Vir Chakra being an inhabitant of Karwar - 2nd Lieutenant Rama Raghoba Rane.
