Named after the Rajauri or Rajapuri town and carved out of Poonch District, Rajauri District of west Jammu & Kashmir came into existence in the year 1967. Poonch, Udhampur and Jammu districts border Rajauri District, which occupies an area of 2630 sq. km.
According to the 2001 Census Report Poonch District has recorded a population of 4.876 lakhs. People mainly raise paddy, maize, wheat and fodder while some are involved in rearing livestock and allied industries.
Rajauri, with its rugged mountains is dotted with beautiful water bodies. The eminent tourist spots include Rajouri fort, Gurudwara Chhati Padshahi, Balidan Bhavan, Rama Temple Jama Masjid ,Shiv Mandir, Dhanidhar Fort, Law Bali and Thanna Mani among others.
