The vicissitudes of recent militancy attacks have not succeeded in foiling the district's natural splendor. The malls at, Lal Chowk , the sprawling golf courses, the revered Hazratbal and Sankaracharya shrines, the sacred Jama Masjid, and the luxuriant landscaped Mughal Gardens of Chesma Shahi, Nishat Bagh and Shalimar Bagh are attractive tourist spots. Besides a Shikhara ride in the shimmering Dal Lake, a stay in the charming and cozy houseboats and a visit to the golden meadows of Sonmarg (the starting point of the Amarnath Yatra) enchant tourists by their almost unreal magical beauty.
