Dakshin Kannada or South Canara District of coastal Karnataka is spread over an expanse of 477149 hectares. Bound by Arabian Sea in the west, Udupi encircles the district in the north, Chikmagalur in the northeast, Hassan in the east, Coorg in the southeast, while Kasaragod in Kerala forms the southern boundary.
