Coconut is synonymous with God's Own Country. The ubiquitous coconut tree greets you from every nook and corner of this verdant country. Processing coir is a fairly detailed process. The coconut husk is doused with water and kept in this condition for a period of ten months. The beautiful Halcyon hued fiber becomes ready for spinning once it is battered thoroughly. It is spun in Ratts, another insignia of Kerala's glorious tradition.

Coir is making waves in the world of fashion. You are bound to be the cynosure of attraction if you sport stunning ornaments made of coir or accessorize your wardrobe with colorful coir bags. You can revamp your décor by revving it up with lovely colorful coir mattresses, durries, carpets and a host of other magnificent items. Coir and latex are combined to churn out material for mattresses and cushions.

Alleppey, Kollam and Calicut are famous for their coir industry. Their products finds takers all across the world. The records books have it that the state is the largest producer of coir in India.
