Location And History


The Museum of Kerala History is located at Edappally, at a distance of 10 kms from Ernakulam City, on the Ernakulam -Aluva road.

Architecture and Importance


The Museum of Kerala History is a part of the Museum of Kerala Art and History which has four sections in all- the museum, a gallery of Paintings and Sculptures, a gallery of Visuals and a Doll Museum. A grand statue of Parasurama, the legendary saint who is believed to have retrieved the lands of Kerala from the sea, is placed right at the entrance.

Display And Attraction


This museum provides insight into Kerala history from the Neolithic to the Modern age. The golden past of the state over the last 2000 years is entertainingly conveyed to the public through a light and sound show, the commentaries of which are provided both in English and the local language, Malayalam. Life size figures depict important landmarks of civilization from the Neolithic age to the modern era. The narration explains the progress of the state in the various fields of social development, culture and literature. The hour long light and sound visuals of 87 life-sized concrete sculptures and the vibrant background music enthralls the public. These sculptures depict the important figures of Kerala history. The paintings gallery encompasses 2000 exquisite paintings and contemporary art by Indian artists and the Centre for Visual arts is replete with excellent replicas of the paintings of maestros such as Leonardo Da Vinci.

The Museum of Kerala History is a veritable treasure trove, not only to the people of Kerala but to the student of art and social behavior.
