The name Golden Crown befits the beautiful Ponmudi, for it truly adorns God's Own Country, like a precious gem studded diadem graces the temple of a king. It is located at an astounding 3,200 feet above the level of the sea and at a distance of 61 kilometers from Trivandrum in the district of Thiruvananthapuram. Trekking is allowed in this tourist hub.

The Kallar river or 'the river of stone' is another major tourist attraction. A kilometer from the Kallar river will take you to the Golden Valley.

To catch a breathtaking glimpse of the gushing Meenmutti Waterfalls, all you have to do is trek across Vattappara, Vellarippara, Mamoodu and Vellarippara Up. You can take a dip at the sparkling reservoir of crystal clear water to rejuvenate your senses.

Tourists also flock to the Neyyar Dam which houses an unique garden containing sculptures that captures myriad human actions like fishing and clicking photographs. Engaging wildlife viewing is sure to enrapture your senses at the Neyyar Wildlife Sanctuary. Established in 1958 and spread over 128 square kilometers, you can watch crocodiles sun bathing, go for a boat ride and indulge in some inner healing with meditation. If crocs interest you, then you can pay a visit to the Crocodile Protection Centre. A boat ride guarantees you a sight of the magnificent Agastyamali and for treating your weary soul, you can head towards the Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Dhanwantri Ashram.

A tour to Ponmundi can be easily undertaken as it is well connected by air, railways and road. The Trivandrum International Airport and Trivandrum Central Station are the options for people willing to take the aerial and the rail routes respectively. One can also avail the KSRTC bus services.
