The Silent Valley National Park is also known as Sairandhrivanam in local language, literally meaning "the forest in the valley." It lies in the Palghat or Palakkad district of Kerala in India and is set within the backdrop of dense woods, soaring peaks of the blue mountains and the curving streams intersecting the mountainous terrain. This National Park is a repository of exotic plants and wildlife including birds, animals, insects and reptiles.

This wildlife park is enclosed in the Kundali Hills of the Western Ghats and lies 40 Kms from Mannarkkad in Kerala. It is bounded by the Attappadi Reserve Forests in the east, Palghat woods in the west and and Nilambur divisions in the south.
Area: 77 sq. kms
Best Time to Visit: The month of September to March.
History in Silent Valley National Park
In 1888, this park was stated as a reserved site under the Forest Act and in 1914 it was declared as a Reserved Forest by the Government of Madras in 1914.
Flora and Fauna
This Park sustains unusual plants and herbs of great medicinal value. This Silent Valley National Park has about 110 species of fauna having medicinal value. Seven novel species of plants have also been discovered here.
This wildlife park is famous for its hundred types of lovely butterflies and four hundred species of moths including the Ceylon Frog Moth.
Besides the animals and birds there are11 species of serpents (both venomous and non-venomous), 9 species of lizards and 19 species of amphibians.
