Lakshadweep is the smallest Union Territory of India and is located in The Arabian Sea. It consists of twelve coral atolls, three coral reefs, five banks, and numerous islets, and is under the jurisidiction of Kerala High Court. The capital of this union territory is Kavaratti. It is a famous tourist destination and has many state of the art hotels.

Introduction
Lakshadweep islands are located in the Arabian Sea and 220 to 440 kilometers from Kochi in the state of Kerala, India. It is also the smallest union territory of India and is under the jurisdiction of Kerala High court. The capital city of the Lakshadweep Island is Kavaratti and is famous as a tourist destination. The tall green coconut palms and the spectacular beach has been the prominent attraction of the Lakshadweep islands since 1975. The main Islands are Minicoy, Kavaratti, Amini and Agatti.
Geographical Location
The area of the Lakshadweep island is only 32 square kilometers and its location is 71 degree and 74 degree east longitude and 80 degree and 12 degree 30 minute North Latitude. In the entire islands consists of three reefs, twelve atolls, and five underwater banks. The total number of islands that Lakshadweep is made of is 36, out of which only ten are inhabited. The population of the island is around 60,700. The male population is 31,131 and the female population is 29,519 according to the 2001 census. The main religion followed is Muslim; however there are Hindus as well as Christians as well. The official language is Malayalam. Lakshadweep has a topical climate. The summers vary from 22 degree centigrade to 32 degree centigrade. Winters are pleasant and range from 22 degree to 32 degree centigrade. The overall climate is pleasing and has a breezy atmosphere that attracts tourists. Lots of greeneries provide shade and coolness to the weather. Monsoon begins from June to September and has heavy rainfall and is not considered the best time to visit.
Lakshadweep is famous for its coral islands and is well known for its corals all over the world. The coral reefs found here are of Atolls type and all the islands are made of these atolls corals. Special boats with glass base are available for tourists to watch the coral and even snorkeling is carried out so that one can feel and capture the corals in the camera.
The significant element of the island is the high biodiversity. The islands have a rich flora and fauna as well. There are six hundred types of fish found here in the shallow waters.
Transportation
Reaching all the islands is possible only by boat or helicopters. However, if you want to explore the island it can be only by bicycle or by foot. You will not find any transportation here on hire. With the help of the map you can know the places and its location.
