Narayanrao Peshwa

Narayanrao Peshwa ascended the throne of Maratha Empire in Maharashtra in the year 1772. His ascension was the result of the murder of Madhavrao Peshwa, which was the conspiracy of his uncle, Raghunath Rao.

Madhavrao was killed by the bodyguards who were fixed by Ragunathrao. Narayanrao Peshwa ruled the Peshwa Dynasty for only a year. This was the shortest time for any Peshwa to have been on the throne.

Narayanrao Peshwa ruled for a very short span of time. He was the victim of a conspiracy hatched in the palace due to power struggle.

The conspiracy is credited to Raghunathrao, who was declared the next Peshwa. But unfortunately, his dreams did not get time to flourish as he was removed from power.

This was an ingenious plan by twelve of the Maratha chiefs after which the son of Madhavrao Peshwa, namely, ‘sawai’ Madhavrao Peshwa, was declared the ruler.
