The state of Maharashtra 35 districts, in which there are several cities of tourist interests. These cities see a huge crowd of visitors who make a trip to all the important places to visit. The districts of Maharashtra are:

These districts fall under six administrative divisions of Maharashtra: Amravati Division, Auranghabad Division, Konkan Division, Nagpur Division, Nashik Division and Pune Division.

The Sindhudurg District has been named the tourism District of Maharashtra because of its attractive beaches, temples, forts and folk culture. It ranks second among the districts to attain a 100% literacy rate in India. it has very good connectivity, with 7 railway stations and the National Highway 17 passing through it.

The important cities of Maharashtra: this includes the financial capital of the country, that is, Mumbai, which is also the city which is the home to the Indian Film Industry. Other than Mumbai, Pune is another important city. It is called the Queen of the Deccan and the oxford of the east because of the number of educational institutions which are located here; also, it is close to being a metropolitan city because of its rising population.

Aurangabad, the city of Ajanta and Ellora Caves, has been aptly named the city of caves. Nashik is a city which holds importance for the Hindu pilgrims as it hosts the Kumbh Mela every year. Nagpur is the one of the states most industrialized cities. Solapur is a city, well known for its bed – sheets, is an important city for its cotton – mills. Kolhapur is again another important city, famous for its chappals or sandals and sarees.

Other important cities of Maharashtra are Amravati, Mahabaleshwar, Ratnagiri, Sangli, Chandrapur, Jalgaon and Thane.
