Narali Pournima

Narali Pournima is celebrated by offering coconuts to the sea god on the full moon day of Shravan.

Fishermen worship to please the sea god to let the sea remain calm while they are on fishing.

On this full moon day of Shravan several other festivals like Shravani Pournima, Rakhi Pournima, and Raksha Bandhan are also celebrated.

The name Narali came from the word “Naral” meaning coconut. Therefore offering coconut to the sea is a customary in Narali Pournima.

The Narali Pournima marks the advent of a new fishing season. Fishermen decorate their boats, sing, and dance and make merry. The most popular cuisine of the Narali festival is sweet coconut rice.
