Prince Wales Museum

The Prince Wales Museum also known as Chhatrapati Shivaji Museum in Mumbai was set up in early 20th century in the honor of Prince of Wales’ visit. The architecture of the museum was designed by George Wittet, which is now located near Gateway of India.

The museum has a variety of ancient objects dating back to the Indus valley civilization. There are also artifacts and ruins of Gupta dynasty and Mauryan kingdom. The other collection includes Tibetan art, porcelain work from china, objects of Mughal and Rajput people,palm leaf manuscripts of 11th and 12th century, 19th century pahari paintings, jewelry and glass collection.

Inspired by Bijapur Domes the Prince Wales Museum have a large central dome made of basalt rock.

The Prince Wales Museum is very near to Gateway of India. Any local bus, auto rickshaw, taxi will take you there.
