Trimbakeshwar



Trimbakeshwar is located at a distance of 28 km from Nashik. It is one of the 12 Jyotirlingas. The most unique feature of the Trimbakeshwar temple is that the Shiva Linga here has three faces of the three almighty Gods of Hindu mythology – Brahma, Vishnu and Maheshwara.

It is believed that Trimbakeshwar is the holiest place of Hindu mythology. River Godavari originates from here and anyone is believed to have acquired salvation, once he or she visits to Trimbakeshwar. The construction of Trimbakeshwar was started in 1755 by Balaji Bajirao. The magnificent work of architecture was completed in 31 years.

Trimbakeshwar is famous for the religious rituals like Narayan-Nagbali, Kalsarpa Shanti and Tripindi. Several religious festivals take place in Trimbakeshwar.

  • Sinhastha Kumbha Mela: this festival takes place one in every twelve years.

  • Godavari Day: is celebrated for the first 12 days after full moon in the month of February.

  • Nivrutti Natha Festival: Is celebrated during Poush Sankranti in January.

  • Rathyatra of Trimbakeshwar: on full moon day during the month of November.

  • Maha Shivratri: on the 13th day of Krishna Pakshya, in March.

    Getting There:
    Nearest airport and railway stations are at Nashik. Via road Mumbai to Trimbakeshwar is 180 km. Frequent service of State Transport buses are available from Nashik.
