Mumbai Serial Blast
Three serial bomb blasts rocked the city of Mumbai on Wednesday evening. The explosions have been confirmed as terrorist attacks and were programmed to explode during evening rush hour in busy localities. The first explosion went off in the busy Zaveri Bazaar, the second in the Opera House Business District and the third one in the Dadar District. The last explosion went off at 7pm. The Union Home Ministry in New Delhi has confirmed that the blasts were caused by Improvised Explosive Devices (IED's).
This attack has left 21 dead and 133 injured. The blasts took place between minutes of each other and the first one went off at 6:50 pm in the Zaveri Bazaar area near the famous Mumbadevi Temple, in which some people have been injured, said the Mumbai Police.
The second explosion was reported in a taxi near the Dadar area, though not much can be said at the moment as the Mumbai Police are investigating the nature of the explosives.
Home Minister PC Chidambram has confirmed that the explosion is a terrorist attack, though the terror group involved is not known at the moment.
R.K Singh, India's foreign secretary has said that one of the bombs was places inside a car, the second on a motorbike and the third on a meter box.
Maharashtra's Chief Minister Prithiviraj Chavan has urged the citizens of Mumbai to remain calm and not spread rumours, he also requested Mumbaikars to stay indoors as there was immense chaos on the streets owing to the bomb blasts.
