Mild earthquake jolts northern India today (14th December, 2005) afternoon at 12:39 pm (IST) [0709 GMT]. The epicenter of this earthquake was at Chamoli, Uttaranchal. According to the preliminary reports of the IMD, the earthquake's intensity was moderate. It measured 5.2 on the Richter Scale. The epicenter was Lat 30.9º N Long 79.3º E. Although it was a low intensity earthquake mild tremors were felt by the residents of Delhi too. There were no reports of causalities. However reports are awaited from the remote areas. The earthquake occurred a day after a strong earthquake measuring 6.7 hit Afghanistan.
