October 29, 2005 (Hyderabad): Eight coaches of Repalli- Secunderabad Janata passenger train have derailed in Nalgonda District of Andhra Pradesh.
Railway authorities are not confirming the exact number of casualties, though the figure is feared to be close to 16.Chief Minister YSR Reddy has left for accident site.
The mishap happened between Ramanapet and Valigonda stations of South Central Railway in the early hours today.
According to reports, more than 100 people are trapped in the bogies and rescue operation with the help of locals is underway.
The army has also stepped in and is aiding in rescue operations in the Nalgonda district.
Medical and relief teams from Vijayawada and Hyderabad have rushed to the spot.
The accident apparently occurred as the track was submerged in water following heavy rains since last night.
The train was coming to Secunderabad when the accident took place in Nalgonda district of Andhra Pradesh, 80 km from Hyderabad.
