At present Rajasthan, the northwestern state of India has six Boards and four Commissions.
Boards
- Board of Secondary Education, Rajasthan-The Board of Secondary Education, Rajasthan (BSER), since the last four decades has developed a dynamic system of academic excellence and different examinations. BSER was constituted in Jaipuron 4th December, 1957 in with the promulgation of the Rajasthan Secondary Education Act in 1957.However it was repositioned to Ajmer in 1961.It started functioning in the year 1973 with the present infrastructure and all its amenities.The BSER played an active role for the promotion and development of Secondary Education in Rajasthan, in more than 6000 schools situated in all the 32 districts of the state.
- Board of Technical Education, Rajasthan- This board is engaged in imparting technical education in the state and is located in Presidency Road of Jodhpur. The board arranges for the Rajasthan Pre Entrance Test for Engineering, Architecture and Pharmacy known RPETEAP.
- Rajasthan Housing Board (RHB)-Rajasthan Housing Board was set up on 24th February, 1970 by the Government of Rajasthan under the State Legislative Assembly Act No.4 of 1970. It is an independent body that caters to the increasing demand of housing in Rajasthan. The board initiated housing activities in seven cities of Rajasthan and during the last thirty years housing activities have been carried out in 49 cities, with more projects to come up.
- Rajasthan Revenue Board- This board deals with the revenue related matters of the state of Rajasthan. For more details log on to http://bor.rajasthan.gov.in/
- Rajasthan State Agriculture Marketing Board- Since 1974, The Rajasthan State Agricultural Marketing Board is engaged in the development of Agricultural Marketing. At present, the Marketing Board is not only involved in construction of market yards including warehouses and village link roads but also performs Agricultural Marketing developmental activities for benefiting the economic policy of the state and the country. The Rajasthan State Agricultural Marketing Board exports major commodities of the State to the other countries thus increasing the production and also improving the quality of Agro-based products of the State.
- Rajasthan State Pollution Control Board (RSPCB) - The Rajasthan State Pollution Control Board is an institution that was formed under the section 4 of the Water Prevention and Control of Pollution Act, 1974 on 7thFebruary, 1975, with the aim of preventing and controlling water pollution and maintaining and reinstating the quality of water. Afterwards, it was also vested with the responsibilities of prevention, control and suspension of air pollution under the Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1981. The scope of activities of the Board was further extended with the enactment of the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986.
Commissions
- Rajasthan Electricity Regulatory Commission-The Rajasthan Electricity Regulatory Commission was set up by the Government of Rajasthan under the Electricity Regulatory Commission Act, 1998. The Commission started functioning on 2nd January, 2000 when Arun Kumar (the former Chief Secretary of the Government of Rajasthan) and Shanti Prasad (former member of Transmission & NPP) swore the oath of the office and secrecy and became its first Chairman and first Member respectively. Currently, the Commission is functional with Shanti Prasad as its Chairman and K.L. Vyas and S.M. Dharendra as its members.
- Rajasthan Public Service Commission (RPSC) -The Rajasthan Public Service Commission was established by the promulgation of an ordinance on 16th August, 1949 in Ajmer and has existed in Rajasthan since half a century. At the beginning, the Commission comprised of one Chairman (Sir S.K.Ghosh, who was then the Chief Justice of Rajasthan) and 2 members. Currently the RPSC has one chairman and five members. The primary role of the Commission is to give advice and to make recommendations in the making of appointments to public offices, to exercise disciplinary control over public officers and so on.
- Rajasthan State Human Rights Commission (RSHRC)-The Rajasthan State Human is one of the prominent State Commissions in India that is engaged in the protection and promotion of Human Rights and started functioning from March 2000. The notification issued by the State Government of Rajasthan on January 18, 1999 provided for one permanent Chairperson and 4 Members conforming to the provisions of The Protection of Human Rights Act, 1993. The principal mandate of the State Commission is to act as a watch dog for human rights in the State. At present the State Commission is fully functional.
- State Election Commission, Rajasthan - The State Election Commission is the Constitutional institution that is responsible for conducting and supervising elections to the local bodies in Rajasthan. The State Election Commission (SEC) of Rajasthan came into existence in July 1994 under Article 243 K of the Indian Constitution. The SEC is a single member Commission and is headed by the Election Commissioner of the State of Rajasthan. He acts as the Secretary of the commission. The Commission performs the Constitutional duty of preparing electoral rolls and conducting elections for the Institutions of the Panchayats and Municipal bodies of Rajasthan.
