The state legislature of the state of Rajasthan consists of 200 seats i.e. there are 200 assembly constituencies in the state.

The state executive is headed by the Governor Pratibha Patil, a former deputy speaker of the Lok Sabha. The Chief Minister Smt. Vasundhara Raje is an enterprising leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Jhalrapatan constituency of Jhalawar district and is the Chief Minister of the state.
Along with her council of ministers, Smt Vasundhara Raje carries out the executive functions of the state in the name of the Governor.
The Chief Minister is assisted by her council of ministers comprising other leading politician of the ruling or majority party. The opposition is currently led by the Indian National Congress party.
