Kumbhalgarh Sanctuary

The Kumbhalgarh sanctuary offers a commanding view of the historical Kumbhalgarh Fortress and derives its name from this fort. Lying at an altitude of 500 to 1,300m in the Aravali Hills, the Kumbhalgarh sanctuary encompasses an area of 578 sq Kms that extends in the districts of Pali, Rajsamand and Udaipur.

Location - The sanctuary is located at a distance of 90 kms from Udaipur. The nearest town is Falna that lies at a distance of about 25 kms.

  • Road: There are buses that ply regularly from Udaipur.

    Wildlife - This sanctuary is the dwelling place of varied wildlife species like hyena, jackal, jungle cat, smabhar, leopards, sloth bear, nilgai, chaisingh (the four horned antelope), chinkara, hare and wolves. In fact more than forty wolves reside in the Joba area of the sanctuary. These wolves can be seen more frequently around the water holes during the summer time.

    Birds- A large number of birds is also available here. The most common among them are the peacocks and doves. The grey jungle fowl is also found here. Other birds that can be seen are red spur owls, grey pigeons, parakeets, golden oriole, white breasted kingfisher and bulbul can also be seen here.
