West Bengal - Durgapur city



Introduction



Durgapur was founded in 1950 in the state of West Bengal, India, by Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy, who was the chief ministers of West Bengal. It is situated on the bank of river Damodar and near the largest coal fields in Ranigunj - Dhanbad area.
It is also famous for its rice fields as they are considered to be one of the largest producing zones of the country. The nearest major city is Kolkata, which is around 175 kms from Durgapur. Durgapur is a situated in Burdwan district of West Bengal. The latitude is 23.3 degree north and the longitude is 87.20 east. It is situated at an altitude of 68.9 meters.

Durgapur industries



Durgapur is one of the faster growing cities in the state of West Bengal. In fact, it seems that it will be recognized as the eastern India's mega city! Transport and communication



Durgapur is an important place; therefore it has all means of transport like railways, roadways and airways as well. The city has a well connected and a long stretch of National Highway 2, which is also known as the Delhi - Kolkata road and is a very busy road. It runs through several states neighboring West Bengal like Jharkhand, Bihar, and Uttar Pradesh and even from Haryana and Delhi. It runs around 1465 km from Delhi to Kolkata. This way it goes through Durgapur and helps in reaching to Aurangabad to the North West and to Kolkata to the south east.

The railway line in Durgapur is located in 9 kms away from the heart of the city. It is situated on the route of Howrah - Delhi. There are plenty of trains that pass through Durgapur like the Howrah-Patna Jan Shatabdi express, Ganga Sagar Express, Jammu Tawi - Sealdah Express, Sealdah-New Delhi Rajdhani express, Poorva Express come to this station. The closest railhead is Asansol Junction railway station.
