Meghalaya Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), along with Indian National Congress, is a national party with a strong presence in the state. BJP does not share the popularity of that it enjoys in the central part of India in the states of North-East India. The results of the last assembly and the parliament elections were far from satisfactory. Although the party failed to meet commendable success, yet the organization of Bharatiya Janata Party in Meghalaya is strong enough to make a difference in the state's political scenario through strategic alliance formations.

Meghalaya Bharatiya Janata Party has a well-coordinated party organization with its state head office at Raj Bhawan Road, at Lower Lachumiere in Shillong. Under the able guidance of Shri H.S. Syiemlieh, the state president, Bharatiya Janata Party of Meghalaya is committed towards strengthening its base in the state. It is generally believed that the performance in the upcoming Assembly elections and the Lok Sabha elections will be much better than the previous times.

The performance of Bharatiya Janata Party in Meghalaya elections have been modest by all means. It failed to win a single seat in the 2004 Lok Sabha elections. In the assembly elections Bharatiya Janata Party won two of the sixty seats to the state assembly. However, Bharatiya Janata Party at Meghalaya, along with an alliance with the local and state level parties, can play an important role in the coalition politics of the state.
