Deputy Speaker of Meghalaya Legislative Assembly

Shri PW Muktieh is the Deputy Speaker of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly. He is one of the most trusted and loyal members of the Indian National Congress in the state of Meghalaya. Having won the assembly elections steadily from the time of his entry into the political scene in 1988, Sri Muktieh was sworn into the post of the Deputy Speaker of Meghalaya Legislative Assembly in 2004.

Political Career

The political career of Sri Muktieh, Meghalaya Legislative Assembly Deputy Speaker started in 1988. Having won the MDC elections for the Indian National Congress in 1989, he became a constant winner at the District Councils. He contested for a seat in the assembly in 1998 and predictably won. He went on to become the minister of State for Arts and Culture in the government of Meghalaya. He repeated his success in 2003 and this time joined the cabinet as the minister for soil conservation. It was on the 23rd June 2004, that he was sworn in as the Deputy Speaker in Meghalaya Legislative Assembly.

Achievements and Interests

Sri Muktieh, Deputy Speaker of Meghalaya Legislative Assembly is an arts graduate from Synod College, Shillong. Sri Muktieh started his professional career as a lower division assistant in the office of the Divisional Forest Officer in the East Khasi Hills divisions of Meghalaya. Soon he went on to become a school teacher and founded the San Raid M.E. School as a headmaster. Even after he joined politics actively, Sri Muktieh continued the good work towards the development of the inhabitants of his constituency.
