Meghalaya Executive

Meghalaya Executive is vested with the responsibilities to ensure the smooth running of the state's governance through a proper implementation of the plans and projects laid down by the supreme law giving body of the state, the state legislature. The governor is the formal head of the Meghalaya Executive wing. The chief minister, with close association of the deputy chief minister guides his ministry for a smooth operation of executive in Meghalaya.

Governor and Chief Minister

The governor is the most important executive post in a state. Sri BL Joshi, the governor of Meghalaya supervises the operations of the executive of Meghalaya. With his vast experience in various high-profile government capacities, he ably guides the entire executive towards a fair perpetuation of the laws. The chief minister of the state is Dr. D. Lapang. He has long and illustrious political career and has been in the ministry for over two decades, having served as the chief minister twice before. He is generally believed to be the right person to guide the group of devoted ministries towards a smooth governance of the state.

Council of Ministers

Meghalaya has a modest ministry. The council of ministers are handpicked by the chief minister to look after the various departments of the state's governance. The council of ministers in Meghalaya consist of 12 cabinet ministers. Together, they are responsible for over 60 departments. The deputy chief minister helps the chief minister whenever necessary in order to supervise the works of executive at Meghalaya.
