Meghalaya Ministries

Ministries of Meghalaya look after the various government departments that are responsible for the governance of the state. The original ministry sworn in after the 2003 assembly elections, was as big as 38 ministers, with 28 cabinet ministers and ten ministers of state, out of the 60 strong legislative assembly. However, following the later rulings by the supreme court, the present council of ministers amount to 12 looking after the various Meghalaya ministries.

Organization of the Ministries of Meghalaya

The ministries of Meghalaya are made to address the various needs of the state. They typically work through a two tier system. The secretariat system is the higher body. They are in direct contact with the state legislative. The work of the secretariats of the Meghalaya ministries includes the implementation of the planning and the programs laid down by the state legislative at the top-brass secretarial level. The directorate comes next. They look after a district wide implementation of these plans. Together they work under the overarching umbrella of the respective ministries.

The Ministries of Meghalaya

There are about sixty departments that fall under the ministries of Meghalaya. The departments are unified under some ministry at Meghalaya or another. For ministries which does not have an assigned minister, the secretary typically takes the responsibility to look after the workings of the departments.
